Today is not a good day to be Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer or anyone over at Disney because the latest movie from the studio, “The Lone Ranger” has failed to impress US audiences and critics alike.

At the moment, “The Lone Ranger” has a meager 23 percent fresh ratings over at Rotten Tomatoes from the critics, with most voices arguing that, whatever Johnny Depp had that made “Pirates” such an amazing experience must be long gone.

As if that’s not bad enough, the film opened to lackluster box office gross on the extended 4th of July weekend, The Hollywood Reporter notes.

To put it bluntly, it was crushed by “Despicable Me 2,” which made $30-$35 million (€23-€26.9 million) on Wednesday, and is en route to a 5-day debut of $120 million (€92.3 million) in the US.

“The Lone Ranger,” on the other hand, only grossed an estimated $12 million (€9.2 million) on the same opening day, going for a $50-$60 million (€38.4-€46.1 million) opening weekend.

For a movie with a budget of $250 million (€192.3 million), that’s not much.
