Two of the biggest and most powerful celebrities in the industry right now, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, bring their star power on the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, to promote their latest film, “The Tourist.”

Though it can’t possibly be a secret, the two stars reveal that they are not “really that social,” which makes it so that, before starting work on the film, they hadn’t even met even though they live minutes away from each other in France.

In the same interview, they also talk about how it was like to meet each other for the first time, with Jolie saying she was moved by what a great artist Johnny is, and he adding that he was very nervous about speaking to Jolie.

“We’re both not that social,” Jolie says in the interview when asked about how come they never met, being practically neighbors in France.

“I don’t think either one of us goes out of our house, especially in France. We’re both locked away,” the star adds. However, they were more than pleasantly surprised when they did meet.

So much has been written about Angie and Brad [Pitt]. They’re sort of the Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton of our era. I knew she was a big star, but I didn’t know what to expect…” Johnny admits.

In the end, it turned out that the image he had of Jolie was far from how she actually is in real life. Once he got over the initial nerves, he discovered a very surprising and “cool” woman, the actor explains.

“Well, there is sort of that. Because on one level it’s like, ‘Here we go, kid. We’re about to get into the ring together.’ We sat there and babbled about our kids, and it was a huuuuuge relief. I was pleasantly surprised that she has an incredibly perverse sense of humor. She’s a really cool broad,” Depp says (excerpts via here).

Angelina too was surprised to discover Depp was different from how she may have pictured him to be, but still incredibly interesting. She got a chance to wait for him in his office and, in the meantime, to have a look at his artwork – his own creation.

“As I was waiting, I noticed these beautiful pictures of his [girlfriend, actress Vanessa Paradis] and kids and all of his paintings. He’s an artist, and you feel that in any space he’s in. When he walked in, he was as interesting as I’d hoped he’d be,” Jolie says.

“The Tourist” is out in theaters on December 10. The Holiday Movie Preview issue of EW is out on newsstands today, Friday, so make sure you pick it up for more from the interview.
