Christina Aguilera said she got “lost in the moment” and got the lyrics to the National Anthem mixed up in her Super Bowl XLV performance. Joan Rivers says she was thinking about food and that’s why it happened.

Comedienne Joan Rivers was never the one to mince her words so it should probably come as no shock that she’s unleashing this on Aguilera after the Super Bowl fumble, watched by millions of people live.

Speaking with PopEater, Rivers puts in her two cents on what went wrong to make Aguilera forget the lyrics to the Anthem, which she says she’s been singing regularly ever since she was only 7 years old.

And, somewhat expectedly, she picks on Aguilera’s much-mediated weight gain to explain the mishap.

“How stupid can you get? Christina must have been thinking about food, that’s why she forgot the words,” Rivers says.

She doesn’t stop here either.

“The ‘Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?’ star continued using Christina’s oft-fluctuating weight to rough up Christina, and offered a line she thought she could have used, ‘O say can you see... french fries’,” PopEater reports.

Such a line would have suited the situation just perfectly, Rivers goes on to say because, as a matter of fact, Christina is now so big she could actually eat her competition.

“She’s gotten so big. She looks like she could eat Lady Gaga. Great way to get rid of competition,” Joan says, referring to an older “feud” between XTina and Gaga.

While Joan Rivers has no nice words for Christina, fellow performer Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas is a bit more understanding, perhaps because she too was in a similar situation.

Fergie asked people in a recent radio interview to consider the nerves that come with this type of performance and not to judge Christina for messing up the words because “we’re human,” as we also informed you earlier today.

Joan Rivers disagrees.
