14 DAY TRIAL // While Jessica Simpson is not a stranger to more or less minor blunders during live concerts, her latest meltdown onstage at a Grand Rapids concert was considerably bigger than anything she ever went through publicly. However, her publicist is now saying that it had nothing to do with issues in her personal life, Jessica being a “perfectionist” on an “off night,” wherefrom said meltdown.
It occurred as Jessica was supposed to do a 38-minute set at a concert in Grand Rapids, with the now-country singer repeatedly forgetting the lyrics to the songs, having trouble keeping up with the backing vocals and telling the crowd she wanted to walk off stage. In a statement just released by her rep, the “trainwreck,” as it’s been described in the media, was not a consequence of the latest bashing Jessica has been getting for her weight, as some have speculated.
On the contrary, her inability to carry on with the set was all about being a perfectionist, her rep tells TMZ. “Jessica had an off night. She’s a perfectionist and wanted to start some songs over. She always wants to give the best performance for her fans.” reads the statement released by Simpson’s publicist to the aforementioned media outlet. Therefore, the 8,000+ fans who felt disappointed in Jessica’s performance should probably know that it happened because she wanted to offer them the time of their lives, as she promised at the beginning of the show.
Nevertheless, “perfectionism” is the last thing that comes to the mind of some fans who were actually present at the concert. As one of them told a Grand Rapids radio station a short while ago, Jessica’s behavior on stage was anything but professional, and rather hinted at her not being able to cope with some personal issues that hindered her from focusing on her singing.
“So I’m watching Jessica Simpson and after her third song, she would kinda just stop singing. She would look right at the camera and say, ‘Sorry I can’t do it.’ No one could figure out why because she sounded great. After that almost every single song that she sang she would just start crying. And she would mouth in the microphone ‘Please God help me through this.’ At one point she said all she wanted to do was to walk off the stage. She made it sound like she was upset because she couldn’t sing as well as she thought.” the concert-goer explained for the local media.
