Though the cast of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” are no strangers to violence, the most recent episode has kicked up quite a fuss after The Situation was shown hitting Snooki in the face because she didn’t want to go home.

As the Daily Mail informs, on the most recent episode of the reality show, all hell broke loose when Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino decided it was time to retire from the club and go home.

Clearly, he hadn’t asked Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi if she felt the same way, because she obstinately refused to get up and leave.

At one point, says the report, The Sitch starts yelling at the diminute reality star, then leans over the table where she’s sitting and taps her on the face with his open hand.

Snooki was clearly not happy – and the fact that she’s used to be the one throwing all the punches had nothing to do with it.

“A stunned and clearly upset Snooki, 22, began to shout back at him about hitting her and the argument continued as the group headed out of the club and into the street,” the Mail says.

“Don’t [expletive]-ing slap me in the face and tell me that I need to go home,” she yelled back at The Sitch.

However, speaking with MTV News, the reality star turned fashion designer turned DWTS contestant has described his gesture more like a “love tap” than anything serious.

He didn’t punch her and he didn’t slap her, he says. He just tapped her on the face because he wanted her to see that she needed to go home, especially since she’s had one (or several) drink too many.

“Snooki sometimes drinks a little too much. She is unaware of her surroundings and unaware of what’s going on. Everybody was leaving, and she was the only one staying there,” he explains.

In fact, The Situation was trying to protect Snooki by not allowing herself to be in a situation similar to the one in the previous season, when she was punched in the face at a club.

“To avoid what happened in season one, I really wanted to try and keep an eye on her and not necessarily slap some sense into her, but let her know, ‘Hey, you can’t be here by yourself. You’re a little girl, and the whole group was leaving.’ It was a little love tap,” he says.

A little “love tap” in such circumstances is more than “acceptable,” The Situation believes.
