Jeanne Cooper, who played Katherine Chancellor on “The Young and the Restless” since 1973 and was one of the most beloved and popular faces on daytime TV, has died. She was 84.

The news was confirmed by her son, Corbin Bernsen, on his Twitter page.

“Mom passed this morning. She was in peace and without fear. U all have been incredible in your love. In her name share it 2 day with others,” Bernsen writes.

Oddly, just one day before, he was forced to use the same channel to shoot down reports of his mother’s passing, rumors that had been making the rounds with regularity since she was admitted to the hospital in critical condition in April.

“I want 2 B clear. Mom is still with us. Yes, resting and comfortable, but still here,” he wrote.

Bernsen also tweeted positive messages to his followers and Mrs. Cooper’s fans, urging them to be thankful for the time had, and not upset that it was over.
