Monster Hunter Portable 3rd from Capcom has managed to retain the top spot in the video games chart on the Japanese market while also managing to boost the sales numbers of the PlayStation Portable platform that it was released on, show the market figures offered for the week of December 6 to 12 by Media Create.

The PSP handheld from Sony has managed to sell 158,029 devices during the seven-day period, which is a decrease over the 323,653 units that it has managed during the previous week, but still a very good showing for the Japanese hardware market.

Second place again goes to the Nintendo Wii, a platform that has seen an increase in sales from 56,095 to 79,424 for the current results, probably as a result of holiday-themed sales riding the coat Tails of the Mario anniversary.

The DSi LL version of the Nintendo handheld has managed to go up one position in the hardware chart, from fourth to third, while seeing an increase in actual devices moved to gamers from 40,465 to 59,709.

The normal version of the DSi has also climbed up one place as a result of the drop from third to fifth registered by the PlayStation 3 home console, which has seen its sales stay practically flat at close to 42,000 units.

The Xbox 360 from Microsoft has sold better than the old DS Lite while the PS2 has managed to top the PSP Go.

When it comes to video games Monster Hunter Portable 3rd has had a good second week on sales, managing to move 629,541 copies to gamers, while second place was taken over by Ni no Kuni, a new entry created by (Level-5 for the DS, which sold 170,548.

Third place went to Konkey King Returns, with sales of 79,819, coming up from sixth place last week.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Pokemon Black & White, Mario Sports Mix, Wii Party, Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, Mario vs Donkey Kong: Miniland Mayhem, Tales of Graces F and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
