Media Create, the company watching the moves on the Japanese hardware and video game market, has released figures showing that for the week of November 29 – December 5 the PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony has dominated the charts, boosted by the release of a new Monster Hunter game.

The PSP has managed to move no less than 323,653 units to gamers, which is a huge improvement over the already very good 75,689 units sold during the previous week.

Second place in the hardware chart has been taken over by the Nintendo Wii home console, which has benefited from a slew of launches and the gift giving fever of the holidays, improving its figures to jump over the PlayStation 3.

The Sony home console has managed to sell 41,760 devices, which is about 20,000 lower than during the previous seven day period, taking third place in the chart.

The DSi LL version is on fourth, with sales of 40,465, followed by the DSi, selling 36,481 units, showing little sign of actually slowing down with the impending launch of the 3DS device, set to come in late February 2011.

The rest of the chart is made up of: Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PSP Go, the DS Lite and the PlayStation 2.

The big video game launch in Japan is Monster Hunter Portable 3rd from Capcom, which managed to sell 1,950,717 in its first week on sales, proving that the franchise is still insanely popular on the home market and that it can drive up sales of the hardware it launches on.

Second place went to another new comer, Tales of Graces F, which managed to move 215,187 units for the PlayStation 3 while third spot went to Mario Sports Mix from Nintendo for the Wii home console, posting sales numbers of 59.007.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Mario vs Donkey Kong Totsugeki! Mini Land, Gran Turismo 5, Pokemon Black & White, Super Mario Collection Special Pack, Momotaro Dentetsu World, Kamen Rider Climax Heroes Os on both the PSP and the Wii.
