The launch of the much-awaited Pokemon Black & White 2 has managed to produce a new number one when it comes to the Japanese video game chart while the Nintendo 3DS handheld continues to hold on to its number one in the hardware space.

For the week that ended on June 24, the Nintendo 3DS has managed to sell 68,056 units, which is a solid if not spectacular improvement over the 61,793 that it has managed in the previous seven-day period.

The PlayStation 3 has also seen an increase in its own numbers and holds on to second spot in the Japanese hardware chart after selling 15,680 devices, almost 1,000 more than it managed during the previous week.

The PlayStation Vita handheld has managed to hold on to third spot, but it has seen a precipitous decline in its own fortunes, selling just 13,580 devices after managing to impress with 34,459 before.

The older PSP is still selling well in Japan, moving 8,954 units, while the Nintendo Wii continues to hover around the 6,000 mark as gamers are waiting for pricing and launch date details for the Wii U.

The Xbox 360 has managed to sell better than the PS2, the DSi and its own LL version.

Pokemon Black & White 2, from the Pokemon Company and Nintendo, has become the top seller in its first week on sale, moving no less than 1,561,738 copies for the older DS, while Dragon Quest Monsters Terry’s Wonderland 3D, for the newer 3DS, has managed to take second place with sales of just 58,228.

The last place on the podium belongs to Persona 4 The Golden, from Atlus, with sales of 29,293.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Kenka Bancho Bros. Tokyo Battle Royal, Tokyo Jungle, K-On After School Live!! HD Version, Mario Party 9, Mario Tennis Open, Dragon’s Dogma and Lollipop Chainsaw.
