Guerrilla Games shares its thoughts with us

The console war has been waging in the gaming industry almost since its birth. We've heard countless manufacturers, developers, or publishers back up different devices for their hardware capabilities, their features, or the easiness of development.

The current console generation is no exception to that, as we've already seen a lot of heated debates and arguments between various officials about which console is superior. We've even heard quite a few developers reveal their thoughts on which device is easier to create games for. The most recent one has been the creator of Wheelman, Midway Newcastle, which said that it was much harder to bring the title to the PlayStation 3 than it was for the Xbox 360.

Now, it seems that the creator of Killzone 2, one of the biggest titles at the beginning of the year for the PlayStation 3, has seen it fit to defend Sony's big black box. The Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, Hermen Hulst, says that, if you have experience with the PlayStation 3 in the first place, then you won't encounter any problems.

“I think a lot of those stories that you hear about it being 'so difficult' are coming from developers who are native to other consoles and then start working on PS3, because it is very different,” Hulst explains. “But like us, if you are native to PlayStation, our tech director doesn't say it's particularly difficult. It's specific, but it's not difficult like PS2 was difficult – PS2 was a difficult machine to crack, but PS3 didn't take us a long time to get up and running.”

His statements are backed up by Development Director Arjan Brussee, who says that the PS3 offers “ a simpler architecture than some of the other consoles” and it is “way easier to program for, even for junior programmers.”

Either way though, the console war will still be waged for quite some time, as there will always be people who will root for each of the consoles on the market because of various features.
