Although it shouldn't be that long until Sandy Bridge is released Intel is still going strong with the LGA 1366 platform as this will remain their extreme performance offering even after LGA 1155 comes out, the blue giant just releasing the DX58SO2 and DX58OG LGA 1366 motherboards.

Taking a look at both of these boards, one can certainly see that not so many things have changed form our previous reports detailing the DX58SO2 and DX58OG, although, this time Intel has some higher res pics to show up for itself.

But let's take a look at these two motherboards and see how do they stack up against the competition, starting with the DX58OG.

Presenting itself pretty much as a simpler version of the DX58SO2, this board is based on the X58 chipset and comes with six DDR3 memory slots as well as with two x16 PCI Express slots, three x1 PCI Express slots and one PCI slot.

As is the case with almost all X58 based motherboards, the DX58OG comes with CrossFireX and SLI support, although users will be limited to dual-GPU setups.

In addition, the DX58OG comes with two USB 3.0 ports, six rear USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire port, Gigabit Ethernet and three audio jacks for 5.1-channel audio as well as six SATA 3Gbps and two SATA 6Gbps ports.

Moving to the DX58SO2, this drops one of the x1 PCI Express slots in favor of an x16 slot and adds a second Gigabit Ethernet controller and two eSATA ports to its smaller brother's feature list.

Audio is also improved as this time it comes with an 7.1-channel audio solution paired together with an optical S/PDIF out.

Furthermore, an improved cooling system is used, that connects the VRM heatsinks together with the chipset heatsink via a nickel plated heatpipe.

Both boards feature on-board Power and Reset buttons, a series of status LED lights and an BIOS debug LCD display, the DX58SO2 also coming with a pair of buttons that allows for on the fly base clock frequency adjustments.

Unfortunately, no information regarding pricing were available at this time, although that was pretty clear it would happen since Intel only presented these boards to its channel partners. (via SemiAccurate)
