Intego, the self touted “Macintosh security specialist,” has updated two of its top-end security products, ContentBarrier and Remote Management Console. The former, now updated to version X5, is a piece of parental software that helps Mac users protect their children when they use the Internet on both Mac OS X and Windows (on a virtual machine). The latter adds new features and enables the management of ContentBarrier X5.

“Since Mac users can run Windows on a Mac with today's Intel-based Macs, they are vulnerable to a whole new range of security threats,” Intego says, referring to the newly updated ContentBarrier X5. “When Windows is run in Apple Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion, it requires Windows-specific protection. Intego's Dual Protection product line provides security for both Mac OS X and Windows, ensuring that Mac users running Windows will have total protection for both operating systems.”

ContentBarrier X5 DP (dual-protection) enables parents to choose which categories of content to block, and can block specific applications or protocols (peer-to-peer, instant messaging, e-mail, games, streaming audio and video, and more), thus protecting children from adult websites, predatory chats, suggestive e-mails, and more. Scheduled blocking is also available with ContentBarrier X5 DP.

“As more Mac users run Windows on their Macs, they let their children use Windows as well,” Laurent Marteau, CEO of Intego, adds. “Children need to be protected from the dangers of the Internet on both Mac OS X and Windows, and ContentBarrier X5 DP provides this protection on both platforms, at an affordable price. Intego’s Dual Protection products cost only $10 more than Mac-only protection.”

Intego ContentBarrier X5 DP contains ContentBarrier X5, Intego’s parental control solution for Mac OS X and Parental Filter, Profil Technology’s parental control program for Windows.

Remote Management Console, Intego's solution that allows admins to manage and configure Intego security software on Macintosh computers across a local network or via the Internet, has also received an important update.

Version 10.4.5 includes new features and enables the management of ContentBarrier X5, Intego pinpoints. One new feature is the ability to add computers to the Remote Management Console’s Workstation list by entering a range of IP addresses to be scanned. The software can also import and export presets to apply them on different administration Macs, while client Macs can now be set to notify specific administration servers and download settings from them.

An administrator can manage Intego programs on any number of Macs, using the Remote Management Console. Admins can connect to client computers via Bonjour or by entering an IP address, and set configurations and preferences for Intego's VirusBarrier X5 (Protects Macs from all known viruses), ContentBarrier X5 (parental software) and NetUpdate (updater for Intego programs, and their respective virus definitions and filters).
