With news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is in development at Infinity Ward, the maker of the highly successful 2007 game of the series, a lot of speculations have been piling up, offering leaked bits and pieces of information regarding what's going to be in the new game.

The most credible of the speculations emerged from a supposed beta tester who, after offering information to the public, was banned and lost his job at Activision. The list contained a lot of very specific entries, detailing the weapons and special powers that were set to feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It was said that vehicles would be introduced to the game, that the M16, the AK-47 and the M4 would be featured, while the “Scorpion, P90, M21, R700, G3, G360 will not return.” The new weapons introduced were said to be: the SR25M for the United States, the Diemeco C8 for the Canadian forces, and L85A2 for the United Kingdom.

The leaked information also alluded to all the perks for multiplayer featured in the first Modern Warfare returning in the second game with some of the maps of the initial release also making an appearance. It was also said that “all gametypes will return from MW and all will have hardcore versions” with new gameplay modes including something called Secure, which is a capture the flag type of game based around enemy intelligence. The campaign was set to be again placed somewhere in the Middle East.

It looked pretty credible but an Infinity Ward representative stepped in to debunk all the claims. Rayme Vinson, a programmer, stated that “People. This list is fake. I mean; I can't get into how-much-if-any is true, how much is false, etc (there's a reason why companies 'don't comment on rumors'... it would NEVER […] END), but this list wasn't put together by anyone with any insider information. There's also some craziness that should red-flag this as 'stuff I made up and wrote down' (like grass camo for snipers... that's straight out of CoD4 MP).”

So, it looks like we'll have to disregard all future supposed leaks and just wait for Infinity Ward to deliver some information on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
