Bad news for iOS gamers as Epic Games, developers of highly-acclaimed Infinity Blade titles has just announced the third installment in the series won’t be released until next year.

Dubbed Infinity Blade: Dungeons, the game was expected to be officially announced at the iPhone 5 even back in September.

Although that didn’t happen, further speculations pointed to a possible October 23 release, alongside Apple’s iPad mini tablet.

Today, Epic Games’ Wes Philips told AllThingsD the game will not make it to iOS device until next year, thus putting an end to all previous rumors Infinity Blade: Dungeons might arrive in the next few weeks.

“Ever since the talented team at Impossible Studios got their hands on Infinity Blade: Dungeons, they’ve been busy adding their great ideas to the game. There was also the matter of getting the Impossible Studios team up and running with desks, chairs, staplers and computers. The logistics of a new studio and implementing all these great ideas required a little extra time, so Infinity Blade: Dungeons will hit iOS in 2013,” said Wes Phillips.

With less than three months left until year’s end, we’re wondering when exactly Epic Games’ hotly-anticipated Infinity Blade: Dungeons title will arrive in the App Store.

There are little to no details on the upcoming iOS release, which is to be expected given the fact that developers have yet to start working on the project.

However, we can safely assume the next Infinity Blade game will be powered by Epic’s cutting-edge Unreal Engine 3 technology. We’re still expecting some improvements over the previous titles in the series, as well as support for iPhone 5.

In this regard, Infinity Blade II has been updated with iOS 6 compatibility, so players will be able to take advantage of iCloud support and HDMI output. Stay tuned for more info on the subject.
