Infamous 2 will see its User Generated Content Beta stage extended because of the ongoing offline period experienced by Sony's PlayStation Network.

Infamous 2 kicked off a closed beta stage for its user generated content mode, which started on at the beginning of the month and saw lucky PlayStation 3 owners get a chance to try out the new mechanic that will be included in Infamous 2.

The beta stage kicked off on April 12, and quite a lot of people started creating lots of special missions with the tools made available by the developer of the game, Sucker Punch.

Sadly, last week, the PlayStation Network went offline, as Sony was forced to take the service down because of a hacker attack.

As such, besides letting many games without their online multiplayer modes, the lack of service has also affected the user generated content beta stage for Infamous 2.

Sucker Punch acted quickly, however, and revealed on its Facebook page that due to the PSN outage, the beta stage will be extended.

"We've decided to extend the beta," revealed the studio. "Once PSN is back up we'll determine by how long, but rest assured: your outcry has been heard."

Sucker Punch allowed many PSN users to sign up for the beta stage, but only a certain number of them were selected to actually participate in the test phase.

The studio presented the special User Generated Content mode for Infamous 2 back in March, when it revealed that players of Infamous 2 would be able to create their own missions inside the game and then share them with others through the (currently offline) PlayStation Network.

The most successful missions made in this beta stage will be shipped on the retail version of the game, when it is released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on June 7.
