Cupertino-based Apple is gearing up for the launch of a new iPhone model, one that would add global connectivity into the mix, along with a wide range of other enhancement, yet it seems that sales of their latest model, the iPhone 4, are still high at wireless carriers in the United Stares.

To be more precise, the handset reportedly performs better than any other smartphone at AT&T and Verizon, the only two carriers that sell the iPhone 4 in the country.

According to a recent report from Canaccord Genuity analyst Mike Walkley, iPhone 4 remained top selling smartphone at both wireless services providers in August.

“Our August checks indicated the iPhone 4 remained the top selling smartphone at AT&T and Verizon despite consumer speculation regarding the upcoming iPhone 5 launch,” the analyst stated, reports BGR.

Moreover, he notes that iPhone sales will increase in the near future, as Apple is expected to release the new iPhone 5 model via another wireless carrier in the country, Sprint.

“Further, we believe Sprint will receive the new iPhone at launch and heavily promote it given the carrier’s unlimited data plan,” he explained.

Up until February this year, the iPhone was available in the United States exclusively on the airwaves of AT&T, but Apple felt that sales were slowing down, and considered it fit to add a new carrier to the distribution channels.

Verizon is currently the largest carrier in the US, but it is also a CDMA operator, and the availability of iPhone 4 on its network opened the gate for other similar carriers to add the Apple iconic device to their offering.

Some of the latest rumors around the Internet have started to gain consistency on Sprint adding the next iPhone model to their offering too, and it seems that analysts believe that this will be a great move from Apple.

For the time being, however, nothing has been confirmed on the availability of the new iPhone 5 device, nor on its landing on Sprint's CDMA airwaves, but more should emerge before the end of this month, so stay tuned.
