It uses a LED-backlit LCD and can be set in both landscape and portrait positions

The widescreen aspect ratio is as popular as ever, even though it didn't start out as such. Even Iiyama's latest monitor uses it, and has a native resolution well beyond the so-called Full HD spec.

Iiyama, being a Japanese company, has released its newest display only in its home country, as it tends to do.

We suppose that shipments in other areas will eventually start, or maybe Iiyama will just keep things at home.

The newcomer is called ProLite XB2776QS (yes, another ProLite monitor this is) and has a diagonal of 27 inches.

The native resolution is of 2560 x 1440 pixels, and the LED backlighting makes sure the brightness and color sharpness are high.

On that note, the IPS panel provides very wide viewing angles as well, both horizontally and vertically: 178°/178° (V/H).

For those who want to know all the relevant specifications, Iiyama's ProLite XB2776QS monitor has a brightness of 350 cd/m2, a response time of 5 ms, a pair of 1.5W stereo speakers, and a power consumption of 43W.

As low as it sounds, it can go even lower, by up to 26.3%, when the EcoMode is enabled.

Finally, the stand allows the display to pivot and tilt, insofar as changing from landscape to portrait mode is fully possible.

Iiyama ProLite XB2776QS uses dual-link DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI connectors to receive feeds from PCs, media players, set-top boxes or whatever else.

Its price will be of 65,800 Yen (US $686 / 530 Euro) when shipments finally start next month (April 2013). It will be directly opposed to BenQ's own 27-inch monitor, although that one only has Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels).

All in all, like all displays, the newcomer has nothing on breakthroughs like HP's Holographic 3D LCD, but will get us through the year just fine.
