Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., a leading provider of telecommunication solutions, came to ComunicAsia 2009 in Singapore with two new smartphones, U8230 and C8000. The former was showcased running under the Google Android operating system, with the latter sporting the Microsoft Windows Mobile platform. According to the company, the two mobile phones are expected to come to the market in the second half of the ongoing year, while including the latest mobile handset technologies.

“Having joined the Open Handset Alliance in 2008, Huawei is rapidly moving forward with the development of cutting-edge high-end handsets, especially smartphones powered by Android and Windows Mobile operating systems,” said Glory Chueng, the spokesperson of Huawei Terminals. “The U8230 and the C8000 handsets on display here at CommunicAsia take the interactivity experience of smartphones to a whole new level and Huawei is looking forward to working with our customers to bring them to market later this year.”

The first of the smartphones, the U8230, offers users the possibility to switch between full- and half-QWERTY keyboards, while also enabling them to easily navigate through programs thanks to the 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen display it features. In addition, the device also sports the Google Chrome Internet browser with support for a wide range of Google applications, including Google Map, Google Search and Google Talk. Moreover, the phone comes with a 1500 mAH battery, the largest in capacity available for an Android-based smartphone.

The C8000 comes with a 3-D menu graphic user interface and with a unique independent display adapter that enables presentations of video files and DVD-quality pictures on its 2.8-inch touch-screen display. In addition, the Windows Mobile-powered device also includes optimized power management features, and is capable of delivering video playback time of around six to eight hours.

It seems that these two devices are not the only ones that Huawei plans to release to the market in the near future. Additionally, the company also stated that handsets that would include support for WCDMA, CDMA, and TD-SCDMA standards were also expected to become available in the second half of the ongoing year. We should also mention that the company seems to have seen a lot of traction on the market lately, and that its CDMA handset shipments are reported to have passed the 50 million mark.
