Tips to look effortlessly chic

Getting a red carpet style hairdo in as little time as possible and, preferably, without needing a stylist is something that all women would like to be able to do. As it happens, they can – and quite easily, one might as well add. Thanks to stylist to the stars David Babaii and Marie Claire, now, all women with medium to long hair can get Angelina Jolie’s SAG Awards 2009 look.

Although positively screaming sophistication and elegance, this is one ‘do that does not require that much time or effort on our behalf, Babaii assures us. First off, we must blow dry the hair in separate tresses, without spraying anything on them, other than applying some mousse, so as to get shiny looking, frizz free hair. Next stop, we’re to use curlers to create a tousled mane, with random but rich curls – the messier, the better, Babaii says.

Because it’s not solely the curls that make this ‘do look so fabulous, the stylist also tells us that we must focus on the roots as well. A little volume is always more than welcome, so a volume amplifying serum should be applied to ensure that the hair does not stick to the scalp and distort the proportionality of this ‘do. Then, “Slightly back comb sections of hair and smooth out with a brush to achieve desired height,” Babaii explains.

Since this style is all about looking messy, but in an extremely orderly fashion, a ponytail is not what we’re looking for, the same stylist tells Marie Claire. We should, instead, gather random tresses in a bun at the nape of the neck, which we will hold in place using bobby pins, black if possible, to make sure they’re not easily noticeable, and to guarantee a more natural look.

The last step towards getting an effortlessly chic red carpet ‘do is styling spray. Once the bun and the curls are in place like we want them to, we should apply as much hair spray as we see fit. We should also bear in mind the weather conditions when spraying, that is, if we don’t want to run the risk of stepping out of the house and have the wind ruin what we strove to attain. With this in mind, no one will now be able to say that it takes a stylist to look as good as Angelina Jolie.
