Kaos Studio, as the developer, and THQ, as the publisher, have announced that their upcoming first-person shooter Homefront has gone gold, meaning that the coding on the title is complete and that the manufacturing of game disks is beginning, and have said that the two companies are now preparing the infrastructure needed for a successful launch from a multiplayer point of view.

Homefront can be played on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3, and it will be available on March 15 in the United States and the customary three days later in Europe.

Drew Como, who is the director of game infrastructure at THQ, has said, “We're providing dedicated servers for both console and PC versions of the game. Dedicated servers allow us to support 32-players on large maps with infantry, vehicles and drones, and level the playing field compared to titles that rely on user-hosted games. We know how important this is to the FPS community, and we're looking forward to seeing their reaction on March 15th.”

THQ says that dedicated servers will be set up in a number of locations in order to make sure that players have a good experience regardless of where in the world they are.

Dedicated PC servers are one of the main elements of a PC-based first-person shooter and their absence from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 caused a big stir, with a lot of developers emphasizing their presence as a way of showing the interest they take in listening to the needs of the gaming community.

Homefront will task the player with becoming one of the leaders of the resistance movement in the United States that is fighting North Korean forces that have successfully invaded the mainland.

The action takes place in 2027, after the US has been ravaged by economic crisis and the developers are promising a bleak and realistic game world that will make the player think about how to use limited resources in the best way possible.
