Nokia is developing a new smart home platform that's absolutely mind-blowing. It is going to be called Nokia Home Control Center and, through it, new applications will be developed that will allow you to secure your home using just your Nokia device.

All the solutions that will be developed on this platform are to be usable from the PC, smartphone or remotely. Such services will allow you to use your smartphone to check electric usage, temperature, switch on and off home devices, and monitor any other preprogrammed item just by flicking your mobile's buttons. In a nutshell, this new platform may revolutionize home security for one, while, on the other hand, it might just bring new meanings and open horizons for manufacturers when creating mobile technologies.

Head of Corporate Business Development and Nokia Vice President, Teppo Paavola, stated the following regarding this exciting news, "We see there is growth potential in the smart home market. [..] The home of today has intelligence everywhere, but to date there has not been a solution that is interoperable with a wide range of home systems that can easily be controlled. We want to create an open solution where external partners can develop their own solutions and services on top of our platform. We believe that the mobile device is an ideal interface to control home intelligence, especially when the user is not at home".

Furthermore, Nokia has entered a collaboration with RWE, one of Europe's biggest energy suppliers, and other companies, in an attempt to develop in advance more and more such technologies. Together with RWE, the aim is to come up with solutions for CO2 footage and energy managing in your home while you’re away, with near to no trouble, straight from your mobile. Such a technology would, at first, be mostly developed for home heating management and, in time, on other, more important home services. User interface will consist of the PC and the mobile, while through well located and remote controlled thermostats, plus an additional display that will give you a more or less panoramic view, you will have full control over your house when you’re at work, for example.

RWE's Head of New Business, Carolin Reichert, had this to say on the collaboration with Nokia, "We are delighted to have secured a world-leading technology partner in Nokia for our range of smart home energy products. Our aim is to offer innovative and affordable energy-efficient solutions for every household that are simple and convenient to operate".
