One week ago, on her 1-year marriage anniversary, Hilary Duff let all her fans know that she was also expecting her first child. The pregnancy has now cost her her part in the upcoming “The Story of Bonnie and Clyde” remake, it has emerged.

Word that Hilary would take on the part made legendary by Faye Dunaway in the 1967 classic first got out in the media in early 2009 and, since then, the project has been in steady development.

However, when Duff announced her pregnancy, movie studio bosses froze, TMZ reports. Because of it, they were faced with a difficult choice: wait until Hilary had the baby or go on without her, being already pressed for time.

They obviously opted for the latter option, the e-zine says, citing well placed inside sources.

“Duff was supposed to play Bonnie Parker in the upcoming film, but sources involved in the production tell us they’re moving forward sans Hilary – a decision that was made right after Hil broke her baby news last week,” TMZ informs.

“We’re told the director is already shopping for a new Bonnie, and the split was amicable. As one source put it, ‘Hilary won’t be available until next June. If we could wait we would.’ Shooting is scheduled for this Fall,” the same media outlet says.

Of course, if the split was not amicable, Hilary has many legal options. She could sue the producers for letting her out of her contract because she got pregnant.

“If prego Duff isn’t cool with the switch this could be another Hunter Tylo situation – the actress who won a $4.8 million judgment when pregnancy cost her a ‘Melrose Place’ role,” TMZ notes.

For the time being, “The Story of Bonnie and Clyde” is on hold. The actor who was supposed to be Duff’s onscreen partner in crime, Kevin Zegers, has also dropped out of the project because of scheduling issues – and a replacement is in order for him as well.
