21-year-old Hilary Duff, singer, actress, songwriter and entrepreneur, can now add another major achievement to her already long list. Variety just confirmed that Duff has been assigned to the part of Bonnie in another take on the story of one of the most deadly couples in US history, Bonnie and Clyde.

Technically, Variety informs, this new film, tentatively scheduled for release in 2010, is not a remake of the classic 1967 “Bonnie and Clyde,” starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. What it will be instead, the source informs, is another perspective on the life of the duo, perhaps also until their final hour.

Produced by Cypress Moon Studios, the film will be directed by Tonya S. Holly based on her own scrip, which she wrote after reading old newspapers on the deeds of the two killers in her family attic.

“'The Story of Bonnie and Clyde' is set to lense in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Natalie Canerday and Rance Howard will also star.” Variety informs. Unfortunately, more specific details on the production, such as a date when shooting will begin or how the director plans to go about the slight age difference between Duff and her onscreen character, have not yet been made public.

Be that as it may, fans are already up in arms about the new film, as also are critics. “The Story of Bonnie and Clyde,” even if not a remake of the cult classic, will still “ruin” it, it is being said, just like it happened to many other productions that Hollywood tried to dust off and re-sell again to the audiences.

Duff’s ability to play such a vicious woman as Bonnie Parker is said to have been is also brought in question, especially since she is known for her innate “sweetness.”

Either way, one thing that all nay-sayers seem to agree on is that, if she does go through with this, Hillary Duff will have her work cut out for her. For starters, she will have to learn to become Bonnie and, thus, make people forget about her good girl image. We’ll let you know how this turns out, so stay tuned here.
