Video game publisher 2K Sports has announced the full line-up for the Greatest mode that will be featured in the upcoming NBA 2K 12 video game, with players able to take control of some of the biggest stars in the history of the NBA franchise and create virtual match-ups that never took place in the real world.

The full rooster includes the following athletes: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Scottie Pippen, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas and Jerry West.

Jason Argent, who is the vice president of marketing for 2K Sports, has stated, “Fans across the country were ecstatic to see Jordan, Bird, and Magic on the cover of NBA 2K12, and have speculated for weeks about who would fill out the rest of the 'NBA's Greatest' roster.”

He added, “These 15 legendary athletes will allow sports fanatics to create the NBA's most storied matchups - and lock in bragging rights for their favorite teams in NBA 2K12.”

The developers are saying that all the 15 players have been recreated with a lot of attention to detail, with team uniforms fully simulated and with each given access to their signature moves.

Even the presentation of the game will change depending on the era when the selected player dominated the NBA.

2K Sports is also saying that those who pick up the game on launch for the Xbox 360 or for the PlayStation 3 will be able to get access to the 1990-91 team of the Golden State Warriors and the 2001-02 team of the Sacramento Kings, two of the most interesting line-ups in the history of basketball.

The game can also be played on the PC, the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 2 from Sony.

It will be launched on October 4.
