2K Sports, a division of Take Two that focused on simulation titles, has announced that the upcoming NBA 2K12 will get an all-new game mode called NBA's Greatest, which will focus on the biggest and most important rivalries of the game of professional basketball, including big names like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Julius "Dr. J" Erving.

NBA 2K12 will be designed to allow players to recreate the most intense game in the history of the NBA and see which teams would win then the most important players and the best strategies are deployed on both sides.

NBA's Greatest mode also allows for match-ups that could never take place in real time, like launching Michael Jordan and his Lakers team against the Big 3 line-up of the current Miami Heat.

The legendary athletes will be unlocked as players engage with NBA 2K12.

Jason Argent, who servers as the vice president of marketing for 2K Sports, has stated, “The NBA 2K franchise has become an essential part of the NBA culture, and our fans can now take control of legendary teams and athletes from the NBA's rich history.”

He added, “With 'NBA's Greatest' mode, NBA 2K12 will allow fans to prove once and for all who are the greatest basketball icons of all time.”

NBA 2K12 continues to focus on the past of professional basketball just as the previous game in the series has before managing to break sales records for the franchise.

It's not yet clear whether EA Sports will launch a basketball simulation this year, after canceling the new Elite last year for lack of quality.

NBA 2K12 will be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation Portable handheld, the PS2 and the Nintendo Wii.

Release date is currently set for October 4 of this year.
