Quantic Dream has provided a few insights into their next title, developed for Sony Entertainment Europe, and due to come out on the PlayStation 3. The studio has laid low after the release of Fahrenheit, which was hailed for the complex story and engaging gameplay, only doing limited work in supplying motion capture for movies and television.

Their next project is called Heavy Rain and will not be in any way related to Fahrenheit. It will feature four characters who are set in extraordinary situations, in which the fine line between what is moral and what is not moral is blurred. The atmosphere will be very dark and a sense of tension will reverberate through the game. Some early artwork produced for the game featured the subtitle "The Origami Killer" and the question "How far will you go for someone you love?", suggesting a story founded on loss and murder.

David Cage, head of Quantic Dream studio, suggested in a Dutch magazine that moral choices will feature heavily in the game and that players will be forced, in certain moments, to make choices that they might define as "immoral" but are necessary in the given situations. No supernatural elements will be present in the game, which is firmly set in a modern world city, with sprawling areas filled with people. Although the game won't feature a complete open-world system, it will allow players the freedom to explore while advancing along the storyline.

The visual aspect of the game will be quite unique, with some of the physics employed already demonstrated in 2006, in this short clip. Sony is said to be impressed at the work Quantic Dream has done on its graphics engine.

The French based developer is known for not releasing games until they have been polished to perfection, so no release date is available, not even a rough estimation. But be sure to check back as further details emerge about Heavy Rain.
