Hauppauge , a company well renowned for its analog and digital TV receiver products, has just announced the introduction of an internal HD video capture card for real-time H.264 compressed recording, that goes by the name of Colossus.

The card can record component video (YCrCb) and HDMI at resolutions up to 1080i from video game consoles, cable TV and satellite set top boxes and supports bitrates from 1 to 20Mbits/sec as well as both NTSC and PAL systems.

Apart from the HDMI and component inputs, Hauppauge's capture card also sports an optical audio input, an A/V pass through, and an optical audio pass through.

In addition, a jack for an IR blaster is also available, so users can automatically change TV channels for scheduled recordings.

The card is supplied together with the Arcsoft Showbiz software, which allows video editing including adding effects, transitions, timeline editing and the ability to burn to DVD or upload directly to YouTube.

“We have had phenomenal success with our external HD personal TV recorder, the Hauppauge HD-PVR. Due to high demand we have now released an internal version of this product and included an HDMI input so that users can now record directly from any un-encrypted HDMI source too,” said Yehia Oweiss, Hauppauge Digital's vice president of Sales EMEA.

“Colossus enables gamers to now have an integrated solution built into their desktop PCs. They can continue recording their gaming results and techniques and share their best game play action from their Xbox360 or PlayStation3 game consoles with their fellow gamers to show off their gaming skills”, Oweiss continued.

The Hauppauge Colossus installs into an open PCI Express x1 slot and it also requires a graphics card with at least 256MB of memory and a Windows OS.

Hauppauge hasn't revealed any information regarding the price of the Colossus, or about the availability of the capture card.
