In light of the software's birthday – one year since debut – the team behind Evernote has announced a ton of updates to the solution it provides. Dubbed as “the second brain,” Evernote is a cross-platform software-and-web-based service that enables one to store all kinds of files for safe keeping and easy finding, using text-recognition technology and more.

“We recently celebrated our first birthday,” the team at Evernote says. “It's one year since we invited 100 TechCrunch readers to try out this newfangled web-meets-desktop-meets-mobile-memory-enhancer-thingamajig. Since then, we've grown to nearly 10 different versions, over 800,000 users, millions upon millions of notes, and tons of cool features. Wow. Thank you for sticking with us,” Evernote sincerely adds.

Getting down to the new features added to Evernote, the developers claim they've been adding so many new features over the recent few weeks that they haven't even had time to catch their breath - “a sign that we should make better use of that gym membership,” the team jokes.  “What's new, you ask? Well, in addition to updating both desktop versions and dramatically improving clipping functionality, we've announced an exciting new partnership, and started recording a podcast. And that's not the half of it.”

According to the announcement, besides the fresh versions of Evernote for Windows and Evernote for Mac, the web clipper has seen a major overhaul. There are new Safari and Firefox add-ons for Mac, as well as an Android-optimized mobile web version. Evernote is also available on iPhone.

The Evernote folks have announced that Shoeboxed and Evernote have teamed up. Shoeboxed is a service that will scan all your business cards and receipts. “We created Evernote to give everyone a second brain. One year in, and so far so good. Wait till you see what we’re up to by the time we’re two!” the team concludes.

Evernote is available both in free and premium form. The free version of the software is packed with features and we can guarantee you won't be sorry for trying it out. Chances are you'll be hooked! However, to keep supporting development of the free version, Evernote will be including ads soon. The premium version contains tons of extra stuff, and will allow users to disable the ads.
