The backend servers are getting hammered

Bungie is having difficulties with the multiplayer beta program for its upcoming game, Halo Reach. It seems that Bungie's servers were not fully capable of sustaining the massive number of players wishing to try out the newest addition to the Halo Series. An official Bungie poster announced that, "We're aware and working to resolve slow matchmaking times and inaccessible playlists. As soon as we're back up and running at full capacity, we'll make some noise."

The gameplay suffered a drawback from the increased lag times, causing a huge number of reports about "slow matchmaking times and inaccessible playlists" to come from players. The developers have also added a collection of tips and instructions on how to make the best of the multiplayer beta experience on the official blog.

Although the Halo 3 ODST game will be used as a key to gain access to the multiplayer beta, the problems might have also been the consequence of the fact that, during the week prior to its launch, various gaming websites gave out early access codes for the beta.

Halo Reach is the prequel to the Halo trilogy, and the last of the series of first-person shooters developed by Bungie, widely considered the games that turned the Xbox from the low-selling, unpopular console that it was at the beginning into the major success that it is today.

Halo Reach takes place in a futuristic setting, where humans have been fighting a devastating war against an alliance of alien races. It features a mostly new game engine, added refinements to the gameplay, new map types, and new weapons that fulfill various combat roles.

As the problem itself suggests, many fans of the series eagerly await the release of this new title. Let's hope we won't see any delay of the release date, sometime during the fall of 2010.
