It seems that the newly unveiled HTC Magic, or G2, is not the only Android-based mobile phone that High Tech Computer plans to release to the market during the ongoing year. According to the latest news on the Web, the company actually plans to develop at least three smartphones that would run under the Google operating system.

Word on the company's plans in the Android-powered devices area comes from HTC's CEO, reports PCWorld. At the same time, it seems that the mobile phone maker is on its way to ship to the market at least two more phones powered by the aforementioned OS in the course of this year.

As many of you might already know, HTC is the largest supplier of Windows Mobile-based mobile phones in the world, as a recently published study showed. At the same time, the company is the first one to unveil to the world a handset powered by the Android platform, namely the HTC Dream, of G1, a handset that was offered by the cell phone carrier T-Mobile.

The second Google phone, HTC Magic, is expected to come to the European market with another carrier, Vodafone, while also being expected to reach other parts of the globe, such as Australia, with other operators.

When asked at a technology conference in Taipei whether HTC would indeed launch five Google phones this year, as rumored around, the company's CEO Peter Chou stated that the phone maker intended to launch “at least three” Android-powered handsets this year, but refused to comment on his statement.

HTC worked closely with Google on the development of the software for the G1 phone, which gives the company a great advantage over competitor companies that also plan to come to the market with mobile phones that would sport the Google Android operating system.
