SaskTel has just confirmed that it will carry the HTC Wilfire S Android-powered smartphone, which will be introduced in the next few weeks.

The regional carrier provides services to 13 cities, 535 smaller communities as well as surrounding rural areas, and recently announced that it will be among the first network operators to debut Samsung's flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S II, some time in July.

One of the Canadian carrier's officials stated via Twitter that “SaskTel will be launching the HTC Wildfire S in the next month. ^KK”

Although, the Wildfire S was previously introduced on the Canadian market by Bell, which is now offering the smartphone for free with a new three-year agreement or $249.95 off-contract, it will be interesting to see SaskTel's price tag for the device.

However, those who are expecting the Wildfire S to arrive at SaskTel should be aware that the regional carrier tends to offer its products for slightly higher prices than Bell.

The HTC Wildfire S made its first appearance at the 2011 Mobile World Congress on Barcelona, along with HTC's first tablet and Facebook phones.

The smartphone can be categorized as an entry-level Android phone, as it is powered by a low-performance 600 MHz processor.

On the positive side, the Wildfire S is delivered with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, complemented by HTC Sense UI.

Furthermore, the phone comes with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with 262K colors support, 320 x 480 pixels resolution, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

In addition, the Wildfire S packs 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Other highlights of the Wildfire S include: HSDPA support, integrated GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, as well as 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording capabilities (VGA@24fps).
