Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just released new software updates for two of the mobile phones it launched on the market with Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system on board, namely the HTC Touch Pro2 and the HTC HD mini. According to the company, the new software update is meant to enhance the SMS functionality of its devices.

“This update amends the internal management of SMS functionality, and enhances SMS transmission stability,” is what the handset vendor states on its support website. Moreover, the company states that the update is meant for those HTC HD mini devices with ROM versions less than or equal to 1.36.XXX.X, as well as for HTC Touch Pro2 with ROM versions less than or equal to 2.08.XXX.X.

The new software solution can be installed on any of the two handsets via a Windows-based computer, after the phone has been connected to it via a USB cable. The update is available for download from HTC's website here for the HTC HD mini, and from here for the HTC Touch Pro2. For the former device, the software would arrive as “PHO03611.exe”, while for the latter it would be “RHO_S2_00896.exe.”

According to HTC, users interested in installing the update on their devices should do the following: - Make sure you have Microsoft ActiveSync installed on your Windows XP PC or Windows Mobile Device Center on your Windows Vista PC. You can find Microsoft ActiveSync from this link or Windows Mobile Device Center from this link. - Connect and synchronize your device with your PC via Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center using the USB cable.

At this stage, one would have to download the appropriate software solution from HTC, copy it to the mobile phone, and tap the file to start the installation, after which they would have to follow the on-screen instructions. One thing that should be noted here is that the update would have to be re-installed in case a hard reset of the phone is performed.
