Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corporation is reportedly getting ready to come to the market with a new version of its HTC Touch HD handset, only that the sequel should come as a major change when compared to its predecessor. To be more precise, rumor has it that the second HTC Touch HD is set to become available with Google's Android operating system on board.

The news about the refreshed HTC Touch HD comes from an article on RegHardware, which also states that the second iteration of the mobile phone is set to turn much faster than the predecessor, even faster than the already existing HTC smartphones. The sequel should come with a 628MHz Qualcomm chip inside, unlike other high-end HTC devices, which currently include a 528MHz Qualcomm processor.

Other possible specifications on the upcoming device would include a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, which should boast about the same 480 x 800 resolution as on the original Touch HD. These details have been unveiled by a source familiar with HTC's plans, yet no other info on the handset emerged until now.

It comes rather as a surprise that HTC decided to go for a new operating system choice on the second Touch HD. Google's Android platform is already present on a series of HTC devices, as many of you might already know, yet we shouldn't forget the fact that HTC it still the manufacturer that has the largest number of Windows Mobile-powered smartphones on the market (80% of all available WM devices back in February).

However, although no specific details were unveiled, the HTC Touch HD2 is expected to reach the market sometime next year. More info on it will certainly emerge in the future, and we'll learn for sure whether HTC decided to pack it with Android or Windows Mobile 6.5. Or even Windows Mobile 7, which should also come next year. Stay tuned to learn more details on this.
