As rumors have it

Just in case you were wondering what the latest rumors in the mobile world were all about, we’re here with the answer. Apparently, the newly launched HTC Touch HD is coming to T-Mobile. More than that, they say it will be the new G2, which means that, yes, it will be running Google Android. What would we do without rumors? History has shown us that, in most cases, they turn out to be true – but whether the same will happen here, only time will tell. Meanwhile, let's see what this one is all about in more detail.

First of all, we have the device, the HTC Touch HD. The smartphone works on 2G and 3G, and delivers a TFT touchscreen, 65K color, 480 x 800 pixel, 3.8-inch display with TouchFLO 3D finger swipe navigation, accelerometer, touch-sensitive navigation controls and handwriting recognition. Touch HD sports a microSD card slot, 288 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, and is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor.

The smartphone also delivers Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and the miniUSB, but also EDGE Class 10 236.8 kbps, 3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. The Touch HD runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and brings a camera with 5 MP (2592 x 1944 pixels), autofocus, video, and another secondary VGA videocall camera. It also packs built-in GPS receiver and A-GPS functions. Other features include TV-out, 3.5mm audio output jack, YouTube client, Stereo FM radio with RDS, Pocket Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, PDF viewer) and, of course, an MP3 player.

Secondly, we have the rumor: if T-Mobile brings the Touch HD to the USA, it will be internally re-worked to support T-Mobile USA's band of 3G for data and voice communication, which operates on an entirely different frequency than the rest of the world.

Provided the rumor is true, the conclusion can be only one – it’s likely T-Mobile will get rid of the Windows Mobile to put Google Android on the Touch HD. However, considering that the carrier will release the G1 on October 22, it's almost certain we have at least another year to wait before a G2 emerges.
