An evolution of the Hermes/TyTN

Yet again, while browsing the web, I found leaked pictures of a mobile device and this time, the culprit is the HTC Titan PDA phone. The photos seem to picture a Hermes-like or TyTN more evolved little brother but I have to disagree with the people that have already written about it on the Internet and said it actually feels very much as a revamped edition of the older Hermes and not like a new handset.

Although I have to say I feel the same about the design of the HTC phones which should have been changed if not entirely but at least in a more convincing manner. They should have invested more time in the design of the Titan and give it a look that would make the final product a lot more interesting in the eyes of the buyers.

As others have already mentioned, the things that have changed in the design seem to resume at a relocated scroll-wheel, a rubbery back that increases the grip on the device and repositioned keyboard LEDs.

Even though most people criticize the lack of changes in this handset, if they would pay close attention to the leaked pictures, they would have realized there are things that make it look as an evolutionary handheld (that's not revolutionary but as long as it comes with better features, I'd say it's good enough because, after all, evolution is the word phone manufacturers should think about when developing a new device).

As I said, things are getting better and you can notice this in the rearrangement of the keyboard: soft keys have moved on the edges, a fn and caps lock indicator led on top of the keyboard, the tab key has transformed into a comma key and the apostrophe has moved into a much better location (these are the things noticed by a gizmodo.com reader).

Furthermore, the battery door opening mechanism has been changed, the handheld features a brushed aluminum screen frame and the already mentioned rubbery back, it has a dedicated Wi-Fi (radio) button and even more important, it seems to be thinner than its predecessors.

The Titan also has 256 MB of memory on board, a 2 megapixel digital camera, EVDO technology upgradeable to Rev. And so, the things look good whatever other people might say.
