Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is gearing up for the release of its first LTE-based Android smartphone, the HTC ThunderBolt, and it seems that the device might be put on sale as soon as March 17th.

Moreover, the handset can already be seen available for pre-order at Wirefly, which lists it with a price tag of $199.99 attached to it, far less than what was previously said on this device.

This price tag would include the signing of a contract agreement with the wireless carrier. If purchased without a contract, the HTC ThunderBolt would cost $669.99.

Those who would like to pre-order the smartphone at Wirefly should head to the company's website here.

Confirmation on the release date for this device came not only from this retailer, but from other sources as well, including a series of leaked documents that pin the phone's availability to the aforementioned date (see here and here).

The bottom line would be that, following a long series of rumors regarding the availability of this device, chances are that the wireless carrier might have finally decided to have it on shelves this Thursday, with all the latest reports converging towards this.

However, no confirmation on the matter emerged for the time being, and we should wait for Big Red to unveil something specifically on ThunderBolt before marking the date in out calendars, that's for sure.

When made available for purchase, the ThunderBolt would surely manage to prove one of the most appealing smartphones on Verizon's network.

It would sport a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, along with a 1GHz application processor, 8GB of internal memory, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, LTE, 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, DLNA and built-in GPS receiver. The handset also sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, LED Flash and HD video recording capabilities, a 1.3MP camera on the front for video calling, 3.5mm Stereo Headset Jack, a Li-Ion battery, and Android 2.2 OS with HTC Sense 2.0.
