14 DAY TRIAL // Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has finally decided to make the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor available for download to its ThunderBolt users.
The Gingerbread update is one of the most anticipated software update for the mobile phone, said to arrive on devices before the end of September, and it seems that things have been finally put in motion.
HTC confirmed only a few days ago that they were still targeting the end of September as the release window for this new software, and now Verizon shared some info on the matter.
The carrier has put the release notes for the new OS upgrade on its support forums, and some lucky users already managed to download it and have a look at it.
The Gingerbread platform will bring along a wide range of enhancements on ThunderBolt devices, accompanied by some improvements packed in the software from Verizon themselves.
The new update will arrive on devices as build 2.11.605.3, Verizon notes, adding that users should strongly consider downloading and installing the update on their devices.
Some of the main enhancements packed with the new OS upgrade would include:
- New download manager app - New app and power management details - New desktop UI, including widgets, icons and screens - New customizable dock icons.
These are improvements packed with the Gingerbread platform, and mark welcomed additions to the already appealing LTE-capable smartphone that was previously confined to the Android 2.2 Froyo OS version.
At the same time, the update brings along some new features and improvements related to connectivity, audio quality, the UI for data roaming, SMS messages, a new Google Books application, and pre-loaded V CAST Tone.
