HTC ThunderBolt is one of the fastest mobile phones that Taiwanese handset vendor HTC Corporation brought to the market, yet it is still confined to the features and capabilities that the Android 2.2 Froyo platform flavor can deliver.

A while ago, HTC announced that they were planning the release of a software update for the mobile phone, so as to bring the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform version to it, and even promised that the update will arrive before the end of September, which is drawing near.

However, the company is still convinced that they will be able to bring the new OS flavor on ThunderBolt before the end of this month.

The handset vendor has just announced that the software update will indeed arrive on devices before the end of September, which means that it will be released this week.

When asked whether the update will arrive on ThunderBolt this month, since it's almost October, HTC said the following on Twitter: “Sorry about that. It's scheduled for later this month. Very soon.”

Another tweet from the mobile phone maker, aimed to answer the same question, reads: “It's scheduled for last [week] this month.”

Various leaked Gingrebread ROMs for the HTC ThunderBolt were already spotted into the wild, all of which pointed at a near release, yet many enthusiasts lost hope seeing that the update is still delayed.

Of course, the update is set to start arriving on devices as soon as this week, but the complete update process will take longer than that.

No specific details on how it will go down emerged for the time being, but we should expect the roll-out to be completed in a few weeks, as it usually happens with similar firmware bumps.

In the meantime, we should wait for Verizon and HTC to make an official announcement on the availability of this software update, as well as on the enhancements that it is set to bring along.
