HTC Runnymede, the long-rumored Android-based smartphone from HTC that could arrive on shelves as the HTC Bass or as the Sensation XL, has just received the necessary approvals from the FCC.

The device that got through the testing process at the feds featured the model number PI39200, which reportedly points at the said unannounced smartphone from HTC.

The mobile phone that received the necessary approvals from the FCC packs support for 850MHz W-CDMA (V) bands, as well as 850 Mhz / 1900MHz GSM frequencies.

Moreover, the new device comes with WiFi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n connectivity capabilities on the 2.4GHz band, and with Bluetooth connectivity.

In addition to the FCC approvals, the new device received certification from the Bluetooth SIG, with Bluetooth 3.0 capabilities on board.

Apparently, the HTC Runnymede might prove to be the Android equivalent of HTC TITAN, which has passed through the Bluetooth SIG certification with model number PI392xx attached to it and with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR capabilities.

Some of the recently leaked details on the handset's hardware specifications also hinted at the fact that the two might be related.

Rumor has it that the new HTC Runnymede might be unveiled to the world in a few days under the name of Sensation XL, since it is said to pack Beats Audio, the same as the recently unveiled Sensation XE does.

What remains to be seen is whether the new device will indeed be packed with features that will bring it closer to the Sensation series or not, since these handsets offer dual-core application processors, while the TITAN packs only a single core CPU (and runs under Windows Phone Mango),

One way or the other, the new device should be unveiled to the world in the near future, and all of the necessary derails on its capabilities and specs will be unveiled at that time, so stay tuned for more on it.
