A new mobile phone from Taiwanese handset vendor HTC Corporation has just received FCC approval, the HTC PD98140, which might arrive on the market at Telus Canada as the carrier's own flavor of HTC Desire HD.

Apparently, the new device was spotted on the same Wi-Fi certificate as PD98120, the handset that should arrive in the United States as the AT&T HTC Inspire 4G, a recent article on Pocketnow reads.

This would be the second time the HTC Desire HD passes through the FCC. The first time, it received the necessary approvals with model number PD98100 attached to it.

This device passed through the FCC halwayss back in September, but did not included support for 3G networks in the United States.

However, the new PD98120 and PD98140 pack support for for GSM bands 850 and 1900 and for WCDMA bands II and V, which means that they would support AT&T's airwaves in the US, as well as Telus's network in Canada (and those of other carriers there).

Apparently, a note on the test report for the PD98140 suggests that the device was stripped of HSPA+ functionality, which suggests that it is not the same phone as Inspire 4G, which offers support for this technology.

The similarities between these devices suggest that this would indeed be the HTC Desire HD smartphone that Telus was rumored a few months ago to plan bringing to the Canadian market.

However, the device would still have to receive approvals from Canada's telecommunications regulatory body, and only then we would be sure that this is a Telus-bound device.

With a 4.3-inch touchscreen display on board, the handset would certainly prove a great addition to Telus's offering, especially since it also includes a new generation 1GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, 768 MB of RAM and 1.5 GB of internal memory.

The specifications list of this device also includes an 8MP camera with 720p HD video recording, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1, microSD memory card slot, 1230 mAh, and Android 2.2 Froyo.
