Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC expects for its HTC Flyer tablet PC to prove a very popular device when made available for purchase later this year, this being the main reason for which it placed orders for over one million units for the first half of the year alone.

The mobile phone maker announced the new device back in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with a 7-inch touchscreen display.

The device comes with a 1.5GHz application processor inside, as well as with 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calling.

Moreover, it would include 32GB of internal memory, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and the Android Gingerbread operating system.

According to a recent article on Taiwan Economic News, the 3G-enabled Flyer should be release with a price tag of around $600 attached to it when purchase free of contract.

The tablet PC would be $100 less expensive than Apple's iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, though it sports a smaller screen than the latter.

However, it might not be too long before HTC would come up with a 10-inch flavor of the Flyer as well.

A recent article on MobileWhack suggests that the company is already working on the development of such a device, although it did not confirm such plans officially.

Although the news site does not offer solid proof on this, they note that all major handset vendor made similar moves, and that it would make perfect sense for HTC to follow the trend.

Most likely, the upcoming device would run under the Honeycomb flavor of Android, while offering about the same functionality as other similar devices on the market offer at the moment, including the Motorola XOOM, or Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Of course, since nothing is official on this, we'll take the info with a grain of salt for the time being, but we'll keep an eye out for more updates on the matter.
