AT&T confirmed it would debut the HTC One X on May 6, but until then customers who wish to be among the first to own the smartphone will be able to pre-order it.

The carrier has just kicked off pre-orders for the One X. Those willing to commit to a long-term contract can pre-purchase it for only $199.99 USD (150 EUR) with a new two-year agreement. AT&T also offers the smartphone for a suggested retail price of $549 USD (420 EUR).

It appears that AT&T was forced to opt for a slightly modified HTC One X due to the fact that the original model does not feature LTE support.

However, while the original One X is equipped with a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, the AT&T model packs only a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU.

There has been much talk on the performance of the two processors, with both CPUs having their own defending teams, but until now neither managed to bring irrefutable arguments that would make one believe the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor is much better than Qualcomm’s, or the other way around.

AT&T HTC One X is powered by Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system integrated with HTC Sense 4 user interface. It also comes with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory and another 25GB of free cloud storage.

Aside from LTE support, the One X also boasts an impressive 8-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, which integrates HTC’s ImageSense technology.

There’s also a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for self-portraits and video chats. The One X has a hyper-vibrant 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display that supports 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and that features Corning Gorilla Glass coating.
