14 DAY TRIAL // Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 is not available on too many smartphones. There are two handsets coming with this version of the operating system right out of the box: Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL.
However, Microsoft confirmed that at least two other smartphones, the Lumia 735 and Lumia 830, might be getting the update as well.
Speaking of which, Verizon's version of Lumia 735 is likely to ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 onboard when the device goes on sale.
Today, along with the release of the new Windows 10 Mobile build 10080, Microsoft confirmed that the preview is now available on additional smartphones, including Nokia Lumia Icon, Lumia 930 and HTC One M8 for Windows.
Since some smartphones need Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, so users can install the Windows 10 Mobile technical preview build, it kind of make sense that Microsoft and HTC have worked together to offer this update to One M8 owners.
Still, Microsoft announced that HTC One M8 owners who upgraded to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 (version 8.10.15143.154) won't be offered the latest Windows 10 Mobile build 10080 just yet.
The update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages
If you haven't been notified yet, you can manually check for the update by heading to Settings / Phone update / Check for updates.
Software version Windows Phone 8.1 (8.10.15143.154) should appear on your screen if the update is available for you. Keep in mind that it might take around 30 minutes to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2.
We've been able to capture the update on our HTC One M8 for Windows and had no issues during the upgrade process whatsoever.
Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 brings HTC One M8 for Windows owners new features and improvements, including support for more Bluetooth HID scenarios such as Bluetooth Keyboards.
In addition, we notice that after upgrading the Settings menu has been reorganized and we can now search and pin anything within this menu. Last but not least, general bug fixes and improvements have been implemented in the update as well.
