Today, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation and communications company Bharti airtel announced officially the launch of the Windows Phone 7-based HTC HD7 smartphone on the market in India.

This is the first handset to run under Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 platform that was made available for purchase in the country, offering Indian users the possibility to try out a load of great features.

Not only does the device come with the brand new mobile OS from Microsoft, but it also sports one of the larges touchscreen displays present on mobile phones today.

Moreover, it includes a nice range of great applications and services, as well as specific solutions that can be accessed through the new HTC Hub available on the Windows Phone 7 device from the vendor.

The launch of HD7 builds upon a long collaboration between the two companies, which resulted in the release of the HTC Touch, HTC Magic, and HTC Smart in the country.

Windows Phone 7 is an entirely fresh mobile experience, on which HTC is excited to be going big. We see tremendous customer opportunities with the integration of Microsoft’s most popular services,” said Ajay Sharma, Country Head, HTC India.

“The value Microsoft is bringing to mobile customers around the world sets a new benchmark for the industry and HTC is proud to be the first in bringing in the brand new Windows Phone 7 experience to India in partnership with Bharti airtel.”

The new HTC HD7 has a lot to offer on the hardware side as well, including the large 4.3-inch high-resolution touchscreen display, as well as a fast 1GHz application processor, along with a 5-megapixel photos snapper on the back, with 720p HD video recording capabilities.

The new mobile phone also comes with support for 3G networks, as well as with kickstand so that one can watch movies on its screen without having to hold it at all times.

“We are delighted with the opportunity to bring the eagerly-awaited HTC HD7 Smartphone in India,” Mr. Shireesh Joshi, CMO-Mobile Services, Bharti airtel, said.

“Combining the strength of the airtel brand and network with the innovation and design of HTC and the great user-interface of Windows Phone 7, we are happy to bring another first for our customers that will take mobile communications to a whole new level.”

The new mobile phone is expected to become available via all authorized HTC resellers across India with a Market Operating Price of Rs. 29,990 attached to it, thought the actual cost of the device might vary depending on the market.
