A new software update has just been made available for HTC HD2 units on Orange's airwaves, Taiwan-based handset vendor HTC announced officially via its support website. The new solution is meant to enhance the user experience of HD2 users on Orange in the UK and France.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC HD2 users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” the company notes on its support website.

The new software update was released as ROM version 3.14.61.2 for users in the UK, and as ROM version 3.14.73.2 for those in France.

As for what the new ROM upgrade arrives on HTC HD2 with, here's what the company announced:

Improved Functions: 1. This upgrade for HTC HD2 includes all previously released updates. 2. For the Contacts application allowing for faster searching and locating contacts. 3. Enhanced handling for CPU processing that will quicken the background processes allowing for an overall improved experience. Users interested in downloading and installing the new software solution on their devices should first check whether the new solution is newer than the one installed on their devices.

To do so, users would have to click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, where they would find the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.

“This is a generic software update. Any additional software or settings provided by your mobile operator or company will be lost. If you require this customization, please contact your supplier first before upgrading,” the mobile phone maker notes.

At the same time, the company announced that the new ROM upgrade would erase all data on the HD2, and that users should consider backing up their personal files on the device, so as to make sure that nothing is lost.

Users would also have top close all apps on the handset, and connect it to a desktop PC, while making sure that the battery is at least at 50%.

Additional info on the new ROM upgrade can be found on HTC's website. The new ROM is available for download from there too.
