UK retailer Clove has priced the upcoming HTC Flyer tablet at £600, which is due to land mid-April. Surprisingly, a Wi-Fi only version of the device has also appeared on the site, priced at £423.

Even though the 7-inch tablet is now available for pre-order from Clove UK, the retailer warned that the price may change before it starts shipping.

“As usual, prices on pre-orders will be amended prior to shipping once an official price is confirmed,” the company stated.

Unlike Motorola XOOM, the HTC Flyer tablet is powered by Android 2.4 Gingerbread, although the Taiwanese manufacturer is expected to roll out a Honeycomb software upgrade at some point.

The Flyer will be HTC's first tablet available on the market and it was the company's answer to Apple's iPad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab.

Unfortunately, the Flyer will make it on the shelves a little bit late, as its main competitors are already preparing to launch sequels to their original models.

Things are about to heat up, as the iPad 2 is expected to make its entrance on the UK market on March 25th, with Motorola XOOM, Blackberry PlayBook and HP TouchPad following soon.

Underpowered and expensive in comparison to its main competitors, HTC's Flyer might not withstand the fierce competition.

The HTC Flyer has a 7-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, and 16 million colors support.

Furthermore, the HTC Flyer features a 1.5GHz application processor, one of the most powerful single core CPUs included in a mobile device.

It also packs 32GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM and microSD memory card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

As a side note, Clove has also priced the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at £600, but no information on shipping has been disclosed yet.
