Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation seems set to launch a new device in the United States on the airwaves of wireless carrier AT&T, a device that just emerged into the wild with the model number F8181 attached to it.

While the handset vendor already has a wide range of other devices available for purchase with the operator, the new phone should be a rather special one, it seems, as it would be the first Brew MP handset at AT&T.

HTC already released a device powered by the Brew MP platform from Qualcomm, namely the HTC Smart, but it seems that this is not that mobile phone.

However, the two might be closely related, since the HTC F8181 that can be admired in the photos attached to this article, courtesy of Engadget, should arrive as the successor of the HTC Smart.

Unfortunately, no info on when the handset should be released on AT&T's network emerged until now, though there are great chances that it would arrive before the end of the ongoing year, it seems.

However, it seems that the mobile phone might be put on shelves free on a two-year contract agreement with AT&T.

One of the main features of Brew MP that Qualcomm stressed upon in the past was that it offered the possibility for cheap devices to be released into the wild, and the new HTC phone might be aimed at the lower level of the market, it seems.

However, it still remains to be seen what name the device would sport when launched in the US, and whether it would indeed pack similar specs as the original Smart.

In case there are some who missed our previous post, we should note that a so called Smart2 made it into the wild not too long ago, and that rumor suggested it might include about the same hardware as the first Smart, though with several enhancements.
