In a somehow expected move, HTC will push the EVO 3D smartphone to the market in Canada with an unlocked bootloader later this summer, wireless carrier Rogers has just confirmed.

The company already promised that the smartphone would be receiving a software update that could unlock its bootloader later this summer, and it was only natural for new units to be delivered unlocked right from the start.

Since Rogers will launch the EVO 3D only towards the end of the summer, most probably in the second half of August, HTC will have enough time to unlock it, that's for sure.

The confirmation on this comes from Rogers themselves. When asked about the bootloader on this device, a company's employee answered: “Yes, our HTC EVO 3D will have an unlocked bootloader.”

This might suggest that future HTC devices will also arrive on the market with unlocked bootloaders, although the vendor did not make an announcement on the matter.

HTC Sensation was also slated to receive the aforementioned software update in late July, and might be shipped unlocked right from the start as soon as August is here.

For enthusiasts, this comes as great news. HTC has been locking its devices to prevent users from loading custom software on them, and the company has been heavily criticized for that.

However, things were bound to change soon, as the phone maker announced that it changed its policy on bootloaders, and that it would update existing phones to unlock them.

Canadian users would be among the first to enjoy unlocked devices right from the start, while others will receive software updates for their handsets, including Sensation 4G and EVO 3D owners in the United States.

When released in Canada, the EVO 3D won't be alone, as Rogers announced a few days ago that it would carry the LG Optimus 3D as well, the other Android-handset capable of recording and playback of 3D content.
