Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced recently the release of a new software solution for on of the most appealing Android-based devices it brought to the market during the ongoing year, namely the HTC Desire.

The new software solution, version 2.29.405.2, was released over the air, and should appear for all HTC Desire owners out there.

However, even if the firmware was announced on the same day that Google made the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system official, there is no connection between the two.

The OTA firmware for HTC Desire was meant mainly to provide an updated Android Market to users. Ahead of Gingerbread's arrival, Google updated the Android Market for Froyo-based devices as well.

“You can now download the latest software update for new features and improved performance. It won’t delete any of your content and we’d recommend using a Wi-Fi connection as this is a large update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply,” the mobile phone maker announced.

Although the software update should not alter the personal files users have on their devices, Desire owners should still consider backing up all data on their devices before launching the update process, just to make sure that no important file is lost.

Users should also check to see whether the software on their devices is older than the version of the new update.

“After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Software number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Software number). The new Software number will be 2.29.405.2,” HTC notes on its support website.

As stated above, the new software solution is being deployed at the moment only as an over the air firmware, and users won't be able to find it put on download around the web, though the mobile phone maker might release it this way too soon.
