Wireless carrier Cellular South has just announced that the HTC Desire was planned to be released on the company's airwaves during summer. According to the company, the new handset, which is one of the most advanced Android-powered touchscreen smartphones available on the market today, is only one of the phones running under Google's operating system that it should bring to the US during the ongoing year.

The specifications list of HTC Desire includes a superfast, 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which should offer users the possibility to enjoy advanced multi-tasking features on the device. Moreover, the handset comes with Android 2.1 and with the latest HTC Sense experience, not to mention that users should be able to access thousands of applications via the Android Market.

“We’re excited about adding the HTC Desire to our expanding line-up of Android-powered advanced touchscreen smartphones,” said Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer of Cellular South. “This device takes Android to a whole new level with HTC Sense and a platform that optimizes the rich media experience for news, the mobile web, music and video applications.”

Built-in Google mobile services should also be present on the new mobile phone, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube or Google Maps Navigation with voice-aided, turn-by-turn directions. The new handset is set to join hands at Cellular South with the HTC Hero, launched last year, and with the upcoming Motorola Milestone. According to the company, it plans on becoming one of the leading providers of Android-based devices on the US market.

Unfortunately, the wireless carrier did not unveil specific details on the pricing of the HTC Desire. The company should make it available for purchase in the near future, both online via its website and in its retail stores. Those who are interested in the new Android-powered HTC Desire should head over to the carrier's website to register for further updates on its availability.
